CurrentReport Blog In a recent development, the Abia State government has taken decisive action against alleged misconduct and financial irregularities within the traditional leadership structure. Eze Edward Ebere Eule, the traditional ruler of Azumini Ndoki in Ukwa East LGA, has been suspended from office for a period of 30 days pending investigations.
The suspension comes as a result of recommendations put forth by the Board of Inquiry, a body established by the state government to investigate allegations of misconduct among traditional rulers in Abia State.
The government, through a press release by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Uzor Nwachukwu, has mandated Eze Edward Ebere Eule to render an account of N8 million in community electricity funds allegedly deposited in a bank account.
Furthermore, Eze Edward Ebere Eule has been instructed to reverse the dissolution of unions, associations, or organizations that he allegedly carried out without following due process. Failure to comply with these directives within the stipulated 30-day period will result in the continuation of his suspension from office.
This move echoes a similar action taken against Eze Kanu Nwa Kanu, the traditional ruler of Ibom Isii in Arochukwu LGA, who was removed from office earlier this year due to alleged misconduct.
The state government’s commitment to upholding accountability and transparency within traditional institutions underscores its determination to ensure good governance and the welfare of its citizens.
The suspension of Eze Edward Ebere Eule serves as a reminder that traditional rulers, as custodians of culture and tradition, are expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity and leadership. The actions taken by the Abia State government reaffirm its commitment to rooting out corruption and promoting responsible governance at all levels.
