CurrentReport Blog Prominent activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has defended social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, against allegations of defamation concerning Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana.
The controversy stems from a leaked audio in which Nigerian cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, allegedly claimed to have offered a N15 million bribe to officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to have money laundering charges against him dropped. The purported bribery, according to Bobrisky, was also to prevent his imprisonment at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos State.
Despite the allegations, Bobrisky has categorically denied the contents of the audio, labeling it as fake and a calculated attempt to tarnish his reputation. The cross-dresser’s denial has not quelled the backlash from Nigerians, with many taking sides in the unfolding drama.
Reacting to the situation, Adeyanju took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to clarify that VeryDarkMan did not defame Femi Falana in any way. According to Adeyanju, the social media influencer was merely seeking clarification on Bobrisky’s claims in the leaked recording, which has caused a stir on social media.
“VDM has a lot of respect for Femi Falana, SAN and nowhere did he defame our revered leader in the video posted. He was simply asking questions regarding the assertions made by Bobrisky in the phone recording. For Falz: he should go and meet Bob about everything he/she said,” Adeyanju tweeted.
The activist’s statement aims to set the record straight amidst growing speculation that VeryDarkMan’s inquiry was an attack on the esteemed legal practitioner. Adeyanju’s defense underscores the need for a thorough investigation into the allegations and the audio recording that has raised questions about the integrity of various parties involved.
Meanwhile, VeryDarkMan has insisted that he possesses more evidence to support the authenticity of the leaked audio, further complicating the situation for Bobrisky. As the drama continues to unfold, many are eagerly awaiting the next developments and whether any legal action will be taken to address the serious accusations being exchanged.
This incident highlights the complex nature of public discourse in Nigeria, where social media influencers and activists play a significant role in shaping narratives and holding individuals accountable. As the story gains traction, it is crucial for all parties to ensure that the truth prevails, and justice is served.
