CURRENT REPORT BLOG Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has taken decisive measures in response to renewed hostilities in Ilobu and Ifon communities, reimposing a curfew from 6 pm to 6 am. The governor’s action follows clashes between militias from the two communities along the Osun-Oyo border on Monday, resulting in confirmed casualties and property damage. Adeleke, acting as the state’s Chief Security Officer, announced the curfew through a statement from the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi. This move echoes the governor’s commitment to maintaining public safety and stability in the face of heightened tensions.
In addition to the curfew, Adeleke directed the establishment of a joint task force involving key stakeholders from Ilobu, Ifon, and Erin Osun. This task force, inclusive of traditional chiefs, aims to address the root causes of the conflict. A high-powered stakeholders meeting, which includes government officials and security chiefs, is scheduled to discuss and strategize on resolving the ongoing tensions. Adeleke further called for the deployment of a contingent of security personnel, comprising the Army, Police, and Civil Defence, to the affected communities, emphasizing the urgency of restoring peace and security to the region.
