CurrentReport Blog Ahmed Musa, former captain of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, has expressed his disappointment over the poor treatment of the national team by Libyan authorities. Following the team’s ordeal at Al Abaq Airport, where they were stranded after arriving for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match, Musa took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice his concerns.
Musa, 32, called on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to take strict measures against the Libya Football Federation for their actions, which he described as unsportsmanlike. “I’m extremely disappointed by the unjust treatment of the Super Eagles, the NFF officials, as well as dignitaries in Libya,” Musa wrote on X.
He urged CAF to investigate the incident, adding, “This is not sportsmanship, and I want the football governing body, @CAF_Online, to intervene and investigate this incident. I stand with the players in this difficult time.”
In response to the treatment, the Super Eagles decided to pull out of Tuesday’s AFCON qualifying matchday four encounter against the Mediterranean Knights. The players and officials are now on their way back to Nigeria, and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has filed an official protest with CAF regarding the situation.
