CURRENT REPORT BLOG A senior lecturer, Dr. Ayodele Isaac Ojediran, from the Department of Science and Technology Education in the Faculty of Education at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, reportedly collapsed and passed away in his office on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. The tragic incident has left the university community in mourning.
Despite being swiftly taken to the institution’s clinic, Dr. Ojediran did not survive. Victor Adesokan, the President of the Faculty of Education Students Association of Nigeria, revealed that he was with the deceased the night before his death. Dr. Ojediran had complained of a headache and appeared weak, emphasizing the need for more academic personnel in the faculty.
Adesokan highlighted the heavy workload on lecturers, noting that Ojediran’s demise marks the fourth death among faculty members this year. He urged the government and school management to address the shortage of lecturers to prevent further losses. Ayodeji Obisesan, a close ally of the deceased, confirmed the sad incident on Facebook, describing Dr. Ojediran as a “very nice and humble man to the core.”
