In an official statement, the police emphasized their commitment to maintaining law and order and warned that anyone caught participating in such activities would face severe legal consequences.

Alert Over Cultist Activities

Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that intelligence reports have indicated plans by certain groups to observe ‘Cult Day,’ a celebration known for its association with violence and disorder. The police have taken a firm stance against these activities to protect the residents of Anambra State.

“To this end, the Command cautions hoteliers, bar proprietors, and managers of event/recreation centers to be vigilant regarding such gatherings in their premises, as there will be repercussions for non-compliance,” Ikenga stated. He urged all venue managers to report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.

Call to Parents and Guardians

In his message, SP Ikenga also appealed to parents and guardians to monitor and advise their children to steer clear of any cult-related gatherings. “Parents and guardians are also urged to advise their children to uphold the law and refrain from actions that could disturb the peace in the state,” he added.

Enforcement of the Anti-Cultism Law

The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its commitment to enforce the Anti-Cultism Law, recently enacted to curb the menace of cultism in the state. This law provides stringent measures to deter involvement in cult activities and ensure the safety of the community.

Vigilant Policing and Security

SP Ikenga assured the public that the police, along with other security agencies, are fully prepared to address any threats. “Information received indicates that a group of criminally minded individuals, under the guise of Cult Day, have planned a celebration tomorrow. This event is notorious for its violence and bloodshed,” he said.

He firmly warned those planning to participate, “The police command advises these individuals or groups to immediately desist, as we are constitutionally mandated to safeguard lives and property and will not permit such elements to undermine the progress achieved in combating cult-related incidents. Offenders will be dealt with decisively.”

Community Cooperation is Key

The police have called for the cooperation of all citizens in maintaining peace and order. SP Ikenga urged the public to report any suspicious activities and support the efforts of the security forces in keeping Anambra State safe.

“We remain steadfast, committed, and dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of the state at all times,” Ikenga concluded.
