The All Progressive Congress (APC), Sokoto State Chapter, has lauded Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his significant strides in restoring confidence in the troubled areas of the Sokoto East Senatorial District. The region, previously identified as an epicentre of insecurity due to terrorism activities, has seen noteworthy improvements under the current administration.
Alhaji Isa Sadiq Achida, the State APC Chairman, highlighted the achievements of the APC-led administration in a recent address. He acknowledged the persistent challenges but expressed pride in the government’s dedicated efforts to address the insecurity. “Our government has shown greater commitment through cooperation with security agencies, and by providing assistance and intervention through relevant grassroots stakeholders,” Achida stated.
The efforts have yielded tangible results. Residents of previously banditry-affected areas are now able to engage in routine farming and social activities with increased safety. Additionally, the frequency of attacks has significantly decreased, and rescue operations by security agencies have become more effective.
In his address, Achida criticized the previous PDP-led state administration for its numerous failures, which he claimed left key institutions in a state of disarray. He pointed out issues such as non-payment of student fees leading to denied access to examination results, a filthy metropolis, and disruptions in essential services due to accumulated debts.
Achida described the APC-led government’s performance within one year as historic and remarkable, with visible development across various sectors. He commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his swift actions in repositioning the state economically, administratively, structurally, and socially. The governor’s efforts have notably improved the welfare of the people through viable intervention programs.
One significant achievement under Governor Aliyu’s administration was addressing the power supply crisis. The governor made an emergency intervention to restore power to affected organizations and public offices, including educational and medical institutions, which had suffered disconnection for months due to unpaid debts to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
Furthermore, Governor Aliyu has approved the payment of N4 billion in gratuity arrears to retirees, with disbursements scheduled between now and December on a first-come, first-served basis. This decision is a part of the governor’s broader initiative to enhance the financial stability and welfare of the state’s retirees.
