CurrentReport Blog The Appeal Court in Abuja is set to deliver its judgment within the next 90 days on the appeal filed by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) challenging its designation as a terrorist organization. This development follows a six-year legal battle led by IPOB’s counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, to reverse the proscription made by former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in September 2017.

The Federal Government had banned IPOB, citing its involvement in acts of terrorism in Nigeria’s Southeast. However, on Thursday, a three-man panel of the Appeal Court, led by Justice Hamma Barka, adjourned the case for judgment after hearing final arguments from both the Federal Government and IPOB’s legal representatives.

Ejimakor, in a statement posted on X, confirmed that the appeal was “finally heard on the merits” and that the judgment is anticipated within the legally mandated period of 90 days.
