CurrentReport Blog Former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has weighed in on Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League semifinal showdown against Dortmund, singling out Portuguese midfielder Vitinha for praise amidst PSG’s disappointment.
PSG, despite high expectations, faced elimination on Tuesday night at Parc des Princes, failing to overturn the deficit from the initial leg against Dortmund. Mats Hummels’ crucial header in the 50th minute, followed by Julian Brandt’s corner, dashed PSG’s hopes of a comeback.
Throughout the match, PSG struggled to break through Dortmund’s defense, with their star players Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele failing to make a significant impact. Wenger, in his analysis on beIN Sports, lamented PSG’s heavy reliance on individual brilliance and commended Vitinha for his consistent delivery of quality balls in midfield.
Wenger remarked, “Only Vitinha in midfield performed tonight and produced all the good balls. After that, it was down to individual actions, to Dembele and Mbappe, and that’s what happened.”
Despite PSG’s efforts, Dortmund held firm, frustrating the hosts and denying them any chance of turning the tie in their favor, even as PSG hit the woodwork on four occasions.
