CURRENT REPORT BLOG The Asaba Kingdom is in mourning following the recent announcement of the transition of His Royal Majesty (HRM) Asagba Joseph Chike Edozien, Asagba of Asaba, into eternal glory. The passing of the esteemed monarch marks the end of an era for the kingdom, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and cultural significance.
Anthony Edozien, the second son of the late monarch, has been appointed as the regent to oversee the affairs of the kingdom during this period of transition. In an official statement released by Anthony Edozien on behalf of the family, along with Chief Patrick Ndili, the lhonor of Asaba, and Palace Secretary Obi Chief P Onyeobi, Iyase of Asaba, it was confirmed that until the first son returns from abroad and a new monarch is installed, Anthony Edozien will assume the responsibilities of leadership.
HRM Asagba Joseph Chike Edozien, who ascended the throne on July 1, 1991, served as the 13th Asagba of Asaba. Throughout his reign, he dedicated himself to the progress and welfare of the Asaba Kingdom, earning the respect and admiration of his subjects.
Chief Patrick Ndili provided clarification on the current situation, stating that while a new monarch has yet to be installed, the regent will fulfill the duties and obligations expected of a monarch, ensuring the continuity of governance and development within the kingdom.
“With heavy hearts, we announce the transition unto eternal glory of our highly revered royal father, Asagba Joseph Chike Edozien, the Asagba of Asaba kingdom.
“In all parts of the country, when a monarch passes on, only the community has the right to confirm, nobody should have the audacity to confirm it.
“Some even published that he has passed on when he was still ill. It is an abomination. Those who did that need to cleanse themselves and if it happens again they will be sanctioned.
“The burial arrangement will be announced by the family,” Ndili stated.
