CurrentReport Blog Former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has sharply criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its handling of the nation’s security. Atiku’s comments came in the wake of a tragic killing spree in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, which has further intensified concerns over the worsening security situation in Nigeria.

Atiku took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his dissatisfaction with the current state of security in the country, describing the situation as “an endemic nationwide phenomenon.” He lamented that recurring killings, many of which do not even make national headlines, have become an unfortunate norm that Nigerians are now “forced to get used to.”

In his post, Atiku extended his condolences to the affected communities and families in Bokkos, highlighting the government’s failure to adequately address the security challenges facing the nation. He wrote:

“The failure of Bola Tinubu’s security architecture has now become an endemic nationwide phenomenon with repeated killings, more of which do not even make the headlines. Nigerians are now being forced to get used to such news of wanton killings, and I again offer my condolences to the bereaved communities of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State and the affected families.”

Atiku further urged the Tinubu administration to reassess and reconfigure its security strategy, stressing that the protection of Nigerian citizens’ lives and property should be the top priority for any government. He called for immediate reforms in the country’s security architecture to better respond to the rising threat of violence and ensure the safety of the populace.

Calls for Action Amid Growing Security Concerns

Atiku’s comments reflect growing concerns among Nigerians over the state of the nation’s security, with recent reports of violence, kidnappings, and attacks by armed groups becoming increasingly frequent. His call for the government to reconfigure the security framework aligns with demands from various sectors of society for more effective and comprehensive security measures.

As security challenges continue to escalate, the Tinubu-led administration faces increasing pressure to find lasting solutions to the rising wave of violence affecting communities across Nigeria.
