CurrentReport Blog In a dramatic conclusion to the 2024 Ballon d’Or, France Football has unveiled the final voting tally, revealing how Manchester City midfielder Rodri narrowly surpassed Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior. Rodri clinched the award with a total of 1,170 points, only 41 points ahead of Vinícius, who received 1,129 points, sparking controversy among fans and Real Madrid representatives.
The voting process, disclosed by France Football, involved 99 judges who each submitted a top 10 ranking for the men’s Ballon d’Or. Each first-place vote contributed 15 points, followed by 12 points for second place, then 10, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 point respectively. This structure led to a total of 6,633 points awarded across all players, underscoring just how tight the race was at the top.
The decision did not sit well with Vinícius and other Real Madrid players, coaches, and executives, who boycotted the ceremony in Paris on October 28. Their absence highlighted their dissatisfaction, as they reportedly anticipated Rodri’s win ahead of the event.
