CurrentReport Blog The Bauchi State Government has announced the temporary closure of its Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) to protect both staff and patients on the day of the planned nationwide protests.
Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Board, revealed this decision during a one-day bi-annual media engagement on PHC services reporting techniques at the Polio Emergency Operation Centre in Bauchi on Tuesday.
Security Concerns Prompt Closure
Dr. Mohammed emphasized that security reports have identified PHCs as potential targets for attacks during the protests. “On the planned date, our health facilities’ staff will be on holiday to avoid becoming victims of any attacks. Normal services will resume after the protest,” he stated.
Measures for Protection and Safety
To ensure the safety of the facilities, the board has notified security agencies to safeguard the PHCs against any aggression from protesters. This precautionary step is essential to prevent any harm to the healthcare workers and patients who might be at risk during the protest.
Addressing Immunisation Challenges
Dr. Mohammed also discussed ongoing efforts to address zero-dose immunisation issues in some local government areas. He highlighted the critical role of the media in supporting these initiatives, particularly in ensuring widespread awareness and participation.
“We plan to immunise children during market days, naming ceremonies, and other gatherings where women and children are present,” he explained, underlining the board’s proactive approach to reaching underserved populations.
Collaboration with International Partners
The board continues to work closely with international partners to manage disease outbreaks and ensure comprehensive media involvement in public health campaigns. This collaboration aims to enhance the effectiveness of health interventions and ensure the well-being of Bauchi State residents.
