CurrentReport Blog Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has dismissed recent speculations of internal divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking as the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, the governor assured the public that there is no faction within the party, despite reports of internal struggles.
The speculation about a division within the PDP intensified after Umar Damagum, the party’s acting national chairman, led PDP chairmen from the North East in a visit to Governor Mohammed at the Government House in Bauchi. This visit followed reports of Damagum’s suspension by a faction of the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) alongside National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, due to alleged disloyalty.
However, in a recent ruling, the Federal High Court in Abuja restrained the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) from removing Damagum as acting national chairman. Justice Peter Lifu ruled that Damagum should retain his position until the PDP’s national convention scheduled for December 2025.
In his statement after a closed-door meeting with PDP stakeholders, Governor Mohammed emphasized the unity of the party and expressed confidence that the internal issues would be resolved amicably. “We have met and discussed these situations extensively with the acting National Chairman, and we have agreed to work together along with other party organs…to resolve all these issues,” Mohammed said.
He reiterated that the PDP Governors’ Forum, the Board of Trustees, and other key stakeholders would deepen their collaboration to prevent future crises. Mohammed was firm in denying the existence of any factions, stressing, “We are not recognizing any faction, we are together as a body.”
The governor also highlighted the ongoing consultations with fellow governors and stakeholders, noting that the party is actively working towards resolving its internal challenges. He expressed optimism that the party would overcome the current issues, restore its unity, and be in a strong position for the 2027 elections.
With the ongoing efforts to strengthen the party, Mohammed assured party members and supporters that the PDP will continue to work towards resolving any lingering concerns and maintaining its status as a formidable political force.
