The coalition’s outcry follows Wike’s recent threat to “set on fire” states governed by PDP leaders in response to their show of solidarity with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara. BAM-V expressed its full support for summoning Wike before the PDP, emphasizing that it is crucial for the party to address the minister’s alleged anti-party behavior.
In a statement signed by its Director-General, Mohammed Abubakar Jibo, BAM-V argued that Wike’s actions have been detrimental to the PDP, particularly noting his open opposition to the party during the 2023 presidential election. The group alleges that Wike’s actions contributed to the defeat of the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the election.
The coalition further criticized Wike’s response to the PDP Governors’ Forum resolution in Jalingo, Taraba State, which supported Governor Fubara’s leadership of the PDP in Rivers State. BAM-V contends that Wike’s threats are reckless and unbecoming of someone who has significantly benefited from the PDP, accusing him of working against the party’s interests by supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2023 elections.
The statement from BAM-V reads: “We, at the Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed (BAM-V), a coalition of youth organizations for democracy, good governance, and accountability, noted the threats by the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, to cause political crises in PDP-governed states because of the resolution of the PDP Governors’ Forum for the return of the party’s structure to Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the rightful leader of the PDP in Rivers State.”
The group concluded by urging the PDP’s National Working Committee to take immediate action against Wike to prevent further damage to the party’s cohesion and stability as it prepares for future electoral challenges.
