CurrentReportBlog A prominent scholar from Bayero University, Prof. Adetokunbo Adebola, has advised Nigerian youths to prioritize educational courses that foster self-reliance and job creation. The retired Wing Commander and guest speaker made this remark at the 2024 Odide Day Cultural Ceremony hosted by the Ilajo Royal Family in Kabba, Kogi State.
Speaking on the topic, “Love and Unity as Ingredients for Community Development,” Prof. Adebola emphasized the declining relevance of several popular courses in tertiary institutions. He urged young people to shift focus toward modern and marketable fields driven by technological advancements.
“Many of the courses our youths are rushing into today are obsolete and no longer marketable. The rise of Artificial Intelligence has rendered some traditional professions redundant. It’s time for our youths to embrace digital education and think out-of-the-box,” he said.
The professor stressed that embracing technology-driven courses and entrepreneurial skills can empower graduates to thrive in a competitive job market. He highlighted the importance of staying ahead of industry trends to avoid joblessness after graduation.
Prof. Adebola also warned against societal vices such as greed, materialism, and crime, urging the youth to focus on meaningful investments in their future.
“What you invest your energy in today will determine what you reap in old age. Avoid shortcuts; instead, work hard, be innovative, and contribute positively to your communities,” he advised.
The event, held to celebrate cultural heritage and foster community development, brought together dignitaries, traditional leaders, and stakeholders across Kogi State.
