CurrentReport Blog The number of confirmed Monkeypox cases in Benue State has risen to 20, with four new samples testing positive. This was disclosed by the State Epidemiologist, Dr. Asema Msuega, in Makurdi.

The confirmed cases are primarily from two local government areas (LGAs): Makurdi and Gwer West, while suspected cases have emerged from five LGAs: Ushongo, Katsina-Ala, Gboko, Makurdi, and Gwer West. Additionally, new samples from Gwer East have been sent to the laboratory for testing.

Dr. Msuega noted that three previously confirmed cases have been successfully treated and discharged from the isolation center at Benue State University Teaching Hospital. A fourth case was confirmed last week and is currently receiving treatment at the isolation center, with the patient reportedly responding well to care.

While some suspected cases are isolated at home, the state is taking proactive measures to curb the spread of the disease. “We are creating massive awareness campaigns to educate people about the disease and promote basic prevention measures such as regular handwashing and avoiding unnecessary contact with suspected individuals,” Dr. Msuega explained.

He also emphasized the importance of early detection and reporting of suspected cases to the nearest health centers, whether primary, secondary, or tertiary.
