Benue State Government Rescues Trafficked Children from Edo State

CurrentReport Blog The Benue State Government has successfully rescued three children who were trafficked from Ukum and Katsina-Ala local government areas to Benin, Edo State. This was confirmed by the chairman of Ukum Local Government Area, Jonathan Modi, on Thursday.

The children, identified as Favour Shidoo Mngerior Fan Adure, Mecivir Kume Jessica (from Katsina-Ala), and Joy Dooyum Fan Adure, were subjected to severe hardship and forced labor after being trafficked. Modi revealed that the alarming situation was brought to his attention by his security secretary, Aku T. Enoch, who promptly coordinated with security operatives to apprehend the traffickers.

Through the combined efforts of local security agencies, the traffickers were arrested, and the children were safely returned. Modi, represented by his deputy, Ivasekwan, received the rescued children in Makurdi, the state capital.

During a meeting with the parents of the victims, Ivasekwan urged them to exercise greater caution when entrusting their children to others. He highlighted the rising issue of child trafficking for financial exploitation and encouraged parents to stay vigilant.

The parents expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Jonathan Modi and the security operatives for their swift intervention, vowing to heed his advice to protect their children from similar dangers in the future.
