CurrentReport Blog The Benue State House of Assembly has approved a supplementary budget of N170.8 billion for Governor Hyacinth Alia, bringing the state’s total budget for 2024 to N396.6 billion. The approval was granted during a plenary session on Wednesday, presided over by Speaker Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh.
The supplementary appropriation bill was passed following a report by the Committee on Finance and Appropriation, led by Cephas Dyako. The report indicated that the initial approved revenue of N225.7 billion had been increased by the supplementary budget, resulting in a revised estimate of N396,621,868,343.
After thorough scrutiny of the revenue, capital, and recurrent expenditures, the House passed the supplementary budget into law, positioning Benue State to execute additional projects and initiatives in 2024.
In another motion during the plenary, the House directed Dr. Grace Adagba, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), to decentralize the ongoing recruitment examinations to all 23 local government areas of the state. The motion was introduced by Minority Leader Michael Audu, who cited the challenges posed by rising fuel prices, making it difficult for applicants to travel to Makurdi for the tests.
The motion was supported by Bemdoo Ipusu and Berger Emberga, both of whom expressed concerns over high unemployment rates and the financial strain the centralized examination process places on applicants. The House resolved that the decentralization would ensure fair access to job opportunities for all qualified Benue State residents.
This decision aims to enhance the efficiency of the recruitment process while easing the burden on applicants across the state.
