The explosion, identified as an improvised explosive device (IED), reportedly killed two individuals, who were allegedly setting up the device when it detonated.
Henry Okoye, spokesperson for the Imo Police Command, confirmed the incident to The Nation, stating, “Two persons who incidentally were the hoodlums were killed in the process of setting up an IED.” He added that Anti-Bomb operatives have been dispatched to the scene, with heightened security measures now in place.
The Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has assured Imo residents of increased security while urging them to report suspicious activity. Local authorities continue to investigate the incident, aiming to ensure public safety and prevent future occurrences.
