CURRENT REPORT BLOG the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially lifted the visa restriction that had been imposed on Nigerian travelers for nearly one year.

This development follows a groundbreaking agreement reached between President Bola Tinubu and the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on Monday. The announcement was made in a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.

Under this historic agreement, both Etihad Airlines and Emirates Airlines will promptly resume their flight schedules to and from Nigeria.

Furthermore, the statement clarified that the restoration of flight operations does not entail any immediate financial obligations on the part of the Nigerian government.

“In recognition of President Tinubu’s commitment to economic development diplomacy and the proposals presented by President Tinubu to his counterpart, a mutually agreed framework has been established. This framework will facilitate significant investments, totaling several billion U.S. dollars, into various sectors of the Nigerian economy. These sectors will include defense, agriculture, and others, and will be carried out by the investment arms of the Government of the United Arab Emirates.

Additionally, President Tinubu successfully negotiated a collaborative foreign exchange liquidity program between the two governments, with detailed information to be disclosed in the upcoming weeks.”

Tinubu expressed his appreciation to UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his unwavering friendship and the collective efforts to fully restore and elevate the standards of relations between these two significant nations.

Last October, the UAE had imposed travel restrictions on citizens from approximately 20 African countries, including Nigeria, barring them from entering the city of Dubai.
