CurrentReport Blog The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Richard Montgomery, has revealed plans to establish a $5 million battery recycling plant in Ogun State. This groundbreaking project, the first of its kind in Africa, is set to position Ogun as the leader in battery recycling across the continent.
Montgomery, speaking during a courtesy visit to Governor Dapo Abiodun in Abeokuta, highlighted the significance of the initiative, which will involve the recycling of e-waste and the extraction of key battery minerals. The company will export these materials for the production of new batteries.
The Commissioner emphasized the collaboration between Ogun Invest and the Bureau of Lands, which is working to finalize the deal. “This investment brings new technology and job opportunities to Ogun State,” Montgomery noted.
In addition to the battery recycling venture, Montgomery discussed potential UK investments in Ogun’s energy, technology, education, and agricultural sectors. He also mentioned the British International Investment’s stake in a major cashew processing and export company within the state.
Governor Abiodun, in response, praised the state’s infrastructure improvements, which aim to attract investments and spur economic growth. He reaffirmed Ogun’s commitment to reducing bureaucratic hurdles and fostering a business-friendly environment.
