CurrentReport Blog Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has praised Kevin De Bruyne for his significant impact on the Premier League, claiming that the Belgian playmaker is a key reason for the Red Devils’ inability to secure major trophies in recent years.
Following United’s 0-0 draw with Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, Fernandes highlighted De Bruyne’s role in raising the standard of the competition. He acknowledged the influence the 33-year-old has had on Manchester City’s dominance and suggested that United’s struggles in the same period are partly due to the Belgian’s brilliance.
“Kevin De Bruyne made the Premier League better,” Fernandes told Sky Sports. “If Man City are where they are and Manchester United haven’t won as many trophies in this period, it’s also because of Kevin De Bruyne. He deserves all the credit — he’s been fantastic.”
De Bruyne’s comments come just after his announcement that he will be leaving Manchester City at the end of the season, after a decade of stellar performances that have seen him become one of the best midfielders in the world.
As De Bruyne prepares to depart City as a free agent, Manchester United continues to look for ways to reclaim the Premier League title, which they last won in 2013 under Sir Alex Ferguson.
With De Bruyne’s legacy cemented at City, the question now remains whether Manchester United can overcome their rivals in the coming years and restore their former glory.
