CurrentReport Blog The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on the Federal Government to urgently address the rising incidence of suicide bombings in the country. This call follows recent tragic events in Gwoza, Borno State, where suicide attacks have once again claimed innocent lives.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, condemned the attacks and emphasized the need for intensified security measures to protect citizens, particularly in vulnerable regions.
“We are deeply concerned about the resurgence of suicide bombings in our country and the serious threat it poses to the safety and well-being of Nigerians,” said Okoh. “These senseless acts of violence are a stark reminder of the pervasive danger that terrorism represents. It is crucial that we take collective action to eliminate this menace.”
Archbishop Okoh expressed commendation for the tireless efforts of security forces in combating terrorism and urged them to maintain their vigilance. He highlighted the importance of preventing a return to the dark days of frequent suicide bombings and ensuring the safety of large gatherings and worship centers across the nation.
“The attacks in Gwoza underscore the indiscriminate nature of terrorism, where any of us—whether family, friends, or neighbors—can become victims,” Okoh continued. “We must unite in condemning this evil and support our security agencies in their mission to safeguard our communities.”
Okoh also called on religious leaders and Nigerians to foster a spirit of unity and resilience against terrorism, promoting peace, love, and harmony throughout the country.
“We urge the government to step up its efforts in securing all citizens, particularly those in regions most susceptible to terrorist activities. It is vital that religious leaders and all Nigerians come together to stand against terrorism and violence,” he added.
The CAN President concluded with a prayer for the victims and a message of solidarity, reiterating the association’s commitment to a peaceful and secure Nigeria.
“We pray for divine comfort for the families affected by these tragedies. May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may God grant us the strength to remain united in our quest for a safer and more harmonious Nigeria. We are not alone in this fight against terrorism. Together, we will ensure that it does not prevail.”
