CurrentReport Blog Frank Lampard, Chelsea legend and former manager, has shared his thoughts on the long-standing debate over Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. According to Lampard, the two footballing icons stand on equal footing, with neither being superior to the other.
In a recent interview with Diario AS, the former midfielder was asked whether he preferred Messi or Ronaldo. Lampard expressed that comparing the two is unfair, emphasizing the uniqueness and greatness of both players.
“I don’t like this conversation. I’ve played against both. More with Cristiano Ronaldo when he was at Manchester United,” Lampard stated. He added that while he never played against Ronaldo during his time at Real Madrid, he had several encounters with Messi in key matches between Chelsea and Barcelona.
Regarding Messi, Lampard said, “Messi, for me individually for talent, is the greatest ever probably in my opinion.” However, he acknowledged Ronaldo’s incredible achievements, highlighting his unmatched work ethic, dedication, and consistency in producing record-breaking numbers throughout his career.
“What Cristiano Ronaldo did in terms of what he made himself and the numbers and output and goals, even now to this time, means that they are just there together,” Lampard explained. He concluded by emphasizing his respect for both players, stating, “I don’t think it’s fair to put one above the other. They’ve been the most amazing players.”
