Chidimma Adetshina was born in 2001 at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, South Africa. Her father is of Igbo descent, while her mother, originally from Mozambique, is now a naturalized South African citizen. The contestant’s diverse heritage initially sparked controversy in South Africa when questions arose regarding her nationality during her participation in the Miss South Africa pageant.

The controversy led to an investigation by the South African Ministry of Home Affairs. Amid the growing scrutiny, Chidimma decided to withdraw from the Miss South Africa competition. She soon accepted an invitation to participate in the 2024 Miss Universe Nigeria pageant.

The organizers of Miss Universe Nigeria introduced Chidimma on their official site as Miss Taraba State, contestant number 25, on Friday. They wrote, “Introducing CHIDIMMA ADETSHINA (@chichi_vanessa) as MISS TARABA STATE.”
