Current Report Blog Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), labeling it as “the most dangerous institution in Nigeria.” The singer made this bold statement in a series of posts on his X handle (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, during the ongoing Edo State gubernatorial election.
Davido encouraged Edo residents to vigilantly monitor the election process, urging them to follow their votes from the polling units to the state collation centers. He expressed doubt over INEC’s commitment to electronically transmitting the results, despite earlier promises.
“We already know that @inecnigeria will not transmit results electronically so everyone should be ready to follow the vote/result from the polling unit up until the state collation centre,” Davido wrote.
He further warned that winning at the polling units is not enough, stressing that being officially declared the winner is another hurdle. He advised voters to be present at collation centers from 7 pm to ensure the transparency of the process.
“Winning is one thing. Being declared a winner is another thing! …. From 7pm make una go Dey mount collation center !! #EdoDecide2024.”
