According to the Command’s Spokesperson, ASP Ahmed Rufa’i, the confrontation occurred when vigilantes attempted to apprehend a notorious cattle rustler at the market. However, their efforts were met with resistance from the suspected Fulani bandits present. The situation escalated quickly, leading to gunfire exchanges and the tragic deaths of six individuals, including the vigilante leader.

Following the initial clash, reprisal attacks ensued, with vigilantes targeting Fulani communities in the area. This retaliation resulted in further casualties and heightened tension in Gada town. Witnesses report a palpable sense of fear and anxiety among residents, with many fleeing the area to avoid potential reprisals.

Hon Kabiru Gada, a member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly representing the affected area, confirmed the incident. He highlighted the chain of events that led to the clash and underscored the need for a swift resolution to prevent further violence.
