CurrentReport Blog Veteran journalist and media mogul, Dele Momodu, has expressed sympathy for Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara as tensions between him and former governor Nyesom Wike continue to escalate.
Momodu, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), commented on the ongoing feud, describing the face-off between Wike and Fubara as “bizarre.” He made these remarks while responding to a video of Wike publicly rebuking another former Rivers governor, Rotimi Amaechi, further emphasizing the dangers of power abuse.
Taking to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, Momodu warned of the consequences of tyranny for those in leadership. He wrote:
“A lot of people cannot understand or appreciate why we caution our friends not to abuse power, but the reason is simple: the repercussion of tyranny is usually catastrophic and it may even endanger our hard-earned democracy. LIFE should never be about POWER only.”
In reference to Wike’s clash with Fubara, Momodu added:
“This is why we find his fight against Governor Sim Fubara very bizarre. I have never had a personal relationship with FUBARA. Never. But he deserves our sympathy.”
Wike and Fubara have been at odds since Fubara took office, with political control at the heart of their dispute. Despite President Bola Tinubu’s intervention, the conflict persists. Governor Fubara has acknowledged the power struggle, explaining that his issues with Wike stem from political control.
Speaking on the matter, Fubara said: “We all know the issue. It is very simple. It has to do with the issue of power and control… If the election had been held in Rivers and council chairmen had been inaugurated in a normal situation, do we even need anybody to go and obstruct them from entering the Secretariat?”
