CurrentReport Blog: President Bola Tinubu has taken swift action by suspending Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, with immediate effect. This suspension, as communicated through a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, aligns with Tinubu’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in managing the nation’s resources. In response, the President has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conduct a thorough investigation into the financial transactions of the ministry and its related agencies. The suspended Minister is instructed to hand over her responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary, cooperate fully with investigative authorities, and a panel led by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance will undertake a comprehensive review of the financial structure of social investment programs for necessary reforms. These directives are effective immediately.
