CURRENT REPORT BLOG At the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Ivory Coast on Saturday, the Super Eagles defeated Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions 2-0 and are now advancing to the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations.

After previous victories in 1980, 1994, and 2013, Nigeria will now meet Angola in the quarterfinals on February 2 in an attempt to win a fourth continental championship.

The longtime rivals faced off once more at the continental finale in a blockbuster match that drew reviews, but the Nigerians easily defeated their eastern neighbours in Abidjan.

The first attempt was made by the Indomitable Lions, and Moumi Ngamaleu missed the mark with the first one three minutes into the match.

After so much pressure and disallowed goals, the Eagles, however, doubled their effort in the 36th minute after Osimhen displayed so much strength to win possession off Lions defender Oumar Gonzalez just outside the penalty area, then picked out Ademola Lookman with a diagonal pass to the right of the penalty area and the Atalanta winger’s shot fired in through Ondoa’s gloves to give Nigeria the first goal.

Cameroon changed to a more attacking formation, and veteran attacker Vincent Aboubakar, 32, came in for defender Gonzalez.
However, it was Lookman’s second goal of the game shortly before the ninetieth minute that gave the Eagles the lead.
