CURRENT REPORT BLOG The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reported an incident at the Federal College of Forestry in Ibadan, Oyo State, where seven of its operatives from the Ibadan Zonal Command were attacked and held captive. The operatives were there to verify the surety status of Azeez Kazeem Oluwakemi, who had vouched for a suspected internet fraudster in EFCC custody. Despite prior notification to the college community about the EFCC’s visit, students and staff engaged in a violent confrontation, blocking entrances, damaging vehicles, and attacking the operatives. A rescue team eventually freed the captive operatives, and the EFCC emphasized its commitment to performing its duties while not tolerating unprovoked attacks on its personnel.

During the incident, the EFCC operatives showed restraint and did not use force against the aggressive attackers. Despite the confrontation, no students or staff members were shot, as the operatives fired warning shots into the air to disperse the crowd. The EFCC underscored its dedication to fulfilling its mandate and ensuring that such unprovoked attacks on its personnel would not be tolerated in the future
