CURRENT REPORT BLOG The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) continues its relentless efforts to curb internet-related crimes in Nigeria. In a recent operation, the EFCC’s Kaduna Zonal Command made significant strides by apprehending 40 individuals suspected of engaging in various forms of online fraud. The arrests, made in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, underscore the ongoing battle against cybercrime in the country.
According to a statement released by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale on Sunday, February 17, 2024, the apprehensions took place in Mpape, located within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Abuja, and Keffi, situated in Nasarawa State. The operation was executed following credible intelligence gathered by the commission, indicating the involvement of the suspects in internet-related offenses.
Of the 40 suspects apprehended, 38 were male, while the remaining two were female. This diverse demographic highlights the widespread nature of cybercrime and the imperative for a comprehensive approach to address it. The suspects are currently in custody pending further investigation and legal proceedings.
As cybercrime poses significant threats not only to individual victims but also to the broader economic and financial landscape, the EFCC remains vigilant in identifying and apprehending individuals involved in fraudulent activities online.
