CurrentReport Blog Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reportedly laid siege at the Kogi Government Lodge in Asokoro on Wednesday night, attempting to arrest former Governor Yahaya Bello. According to a statement by Bello’s Director of Media, Ohiare Michael, the operatives fired shots during the incident.
Michael condemned the actions of the EFCC and warned that the commission should be held responsible if anything happens to Bello. He recalled that the former governor had voluntarily visited the EFCC office earlier that day for questioning but was asked to return at a later time.
In the statement, Michael expressed concern over the sudden turn of events, stating: “It has come to our notice that operatives of the EFCC are currently around the Kogi Government Lodge, Asokoro, in an attempt to forcefully arrest former Governor Yahaya Bello. They were shooting sporadically.”
He added that the former governor had made himself available to the EFCC earlier for interrogation, but no questions were asked. “The EFCC had no questions to ask Alh. Yahaya Bello in the morning, but suddenly, they are out to arrest him,” the statement read.
Michael further criticized the EFCC’s actions, suggesting that the commission was engaging in politically motivated tactics rather than focusing on its mandate to fight corruption. “This action reflects much more than the fight against corruption,” he said, promising to keep Nigerians informed as the situation unfolds.
