CurrentReport Blog Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has called on Christian pilgrims traveling to Israel to be patriotic and uphold Nigeria’s image by avoiding actions that could bring embarrassment to the nation.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Friday during a departure service for the state’s Christian pilgrims, Oyebanji, represented by Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, emphasized that spiritual rebirth is crucial for national development as it fosters attitudinal change, character rebranding, and a corruption-free society.

Governor Oyebanji’s Message to Pilgrims

Addressing the pilgrims at the Government House Chapel, the governor encouraged them to be fully dedicated to the spiritual exercise and pray for Nigeria’s progress.

“Spiritual rebirth of the citizens is very strategic to the growth and development of any nation. We desire a society that is corruption-free, where people can imbibe the fear of God in their daily lives,” Oyebanji said.

“I charge you to pray not only for yourselves but for our dear state, nation, and the world at large. We live in times that require our collective prayer and unity more than ever.”

He also warned against any form of misconduct that could tarnish the corporate image of Nigeria.

“I plead that you do not engage in any act that can jeopardize the intentions of this pilgrimage and put our nation into unwarranted international embarrassment. You have to be above board in all your dealings and comportment.”

Pilgrims Advised to Focus on Spiritual Growth

The Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor, Mr. Abayomi Opeyemi, urged the pilgrims to strictly follow the rules of engagement in the Holy Land, reminding them that their trip is a spiritual journey, not a tourism expedition.

Similarly, Pastor Segun Awolumate, the Government House Chaplain, emphasized the spiritual significance of the pilgrimage, urging the travelers to embrace holiness and return with a renewed faith.

“The land you are visiting is not ordinary; it is filled with the spirit and covenant of God. Make good use of this opportunity,” Awolumate advised.

Ekiti State Ensures Pilgrims’ Safety

Governor Oyebanji reassured the pilgrims of the state government’s commitment to their safety and well-being during the journey.

“We have worked diligently with our partners to facilitate a smooth and blessed pilgrimage experience,” he added.

The Ekiti pilgrims are expected to embark on their journey to Jerusalem with a deep sense of devotion, representing Nigeria and their state with dignity and integrity.
