The primary election, held on Wednesday, was marked by a large turnout of party delegates and stakeholders, culminating in a peaceful and transparent process.

Earlier in the week, the party also concluded the selection of its councillorship candidates for the 260 electoral wards across the state. Both exercises were praised for their smooth conduct, with Governor Peter Mbah commending the participants and congratulating the winners.

The primary elections saw Hon. Okechukwu Edeh of Nkanu East LGA and Hon. Obiora Obeagu of Isi-Uzo LGA, both former council chairmen, reemerge as the party’s candidates. Hon. Edeh secured all 42 votes cast in Nkanu East, while Hon. Obeagu received unanimous support with 33 votes in Isi-Uzo.

Other successful candidates include Beloved Dan Anike (Enugu East), Jude Asogwa (Nsukka), Caleb Ani (Enugu South), and several others representing various LGAs across the state.

In their acceptance speeches, Edeh and Obeagu expressed gratitude to the party members for their trust and pledged to contribute to Governor Mbah’s rural development initiatives. The governor, in his congratulatory message, emphasized the importance of the peaceful and credible process, which he believes will lead to further progress for Enugu State under PDP leadership.

The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), represented by Chairman Prof. Chris Ngwu, observed the primaries and affirmed the process as credible and just, ensuring fairness for all parties involved.

With the candidates now officially selected, the PDP in Enugu State is poised to advance its campaign efforts as the October elections approach.
