CurrentReport Blog The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his commitment to developing Abuja through improved infrastructure, particularly access roads. On Thursday, December 5, 2024, the minister officially launched the construction of a new access road leading to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) academy in Giri District, Abuja.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Wike emphasized the importance of the project in spurring economic growth, particularly in the real estate and agricultural sectors. He highlighted that improved road access would decongest the Abuja city centre, facilitate the transport of agricultural produce, and attract investments to the area.

Development Beyond EFCC Academy

While the EFCC academy stands to benefit from the project, Wike clarified that the road construction is part of a broader strategy to open up underdeveloped parts of the FCT.

“The community is also going to benefit,” Wike said. “People will now build houses, and farmers will bring their produce to the city. That is the whole essence of opening up everywhere.”

He dismissed suggestions that the road was solely for the EFCC, stressing that the initiative aims to promote widespread development in Giri and its surrounding areas.

Commitment to Timely Completion

The minister expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support in funding the FCT’s infrastructural development projects. He assured the contractor of the availability of funds and urged them to deliver the project promptly.

“This road will be commissioned by May next year to mark the President’s second anniversary in office,” Wike announced.

Impact on FCT Development

The road project is expected to stimulate real estate growth, enhance market access for farmers, and improve living standards for residents in the Giri District. It aligns with the FCT Administration’s vision of decongesting Abuja’s city centre and fostering balanced development across the territory.
