At the official flag-off ceremony for the food distribution, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the FCT Minister of State, announced that the FCT Administration received 23,996 bags of 25 kg rice from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. The assortment also included an additional 20,660 bags comprising 4,680 bags of maize, 13,920 bags of sorghum, 960 bags of garri, and 1,100 bags of millet.

Dr. Mahmoud emphasized that these food items are intended to support Nigerians facing food scarcity and the high cost of essential commodities. To ensure the fair and orderly distribution of the palliatives, she has mandated relevant Secretariat, Departments, and Agencies (SDAs) to implement robust security measures to prevent any disruptions or misappropriations.

“We recognize that sustainable development is closely linked to the welfare of our citizens,” Mahmoud stated. “To this end, we are prioritizing the revitalization of the agricultural sector, which is essential for achieving food and nutrition security in our community.”

The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering a secure and supportive environment for agricultural investments, ensuring that no resident of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) goes hungry.

This distribution initiative underscores the Federal Government’s proactive stance in addressing food insecurity and supporting vulnerable populations during these challenging times. As part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, these efforts are set to continue, focusing on long-term strategies to boost agricultural productivity and food availability across the country.
