CurrentReport Blog The Federal Government of Nigeria has attributed the nation’s current economic challenges to the ongoing insecurity issues. Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, made this assertion on Thursday during the Inaugural Annual International Lecture organized by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Speaking at the event, Bagudu highlighted the Federal Government’s commendable efforts to address the economic and security crises, calling for greater appreciation of the initiatives aimed at resolving these issues. He noted that insecurity, particularly in the Sahel region, has significantly impacted Nigeria’s economy, contributing to inflation, disrupted trade, and limited investments.

The lecture, themed “Insecurity in the Sahel (2008-2024): Dissecting Nigeria’s Challenges – Genesis, Impacts and Options,” was designed by NAN to shed light on the security challenges facing both Nigeria and the Sahel region. The Minister emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to combat insecurity, noting that lasting economic growth cannot be achieved without peace and stability.

This event further underscores the government’s recognition of the deep connection between security and economic prosperity in Nigeria. With rising concerns over inflation, unemployment, and poverty, the government’s commitment to addressing insecurity is critical to ensuring sustainable development.
