CurrentReport Blog In a significant legal development, the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of social media influencer and critic Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman, in police custody. This decision follows his arraignment by the Nigeria Police Force on five counts of cyberstalking.
The courtroom drama unfolded as Deji Adeyanju, representing Verydarkman, applied for bail. However, the prosecution requested more time to respond to the bail application, leading Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon to adjourn the hearing to May 29. Despite the prosecution’s push to have the influencer remanded in prison, his legal team successfully argued for him to remain in police custody. Consequently, he has been transferred to the National Cybercrime Centre.
This isn’t Verydarkman’s first brush with the law. The 27-year-old critic, known for his provocative online presence, was similarly remanded in March 2024 for cyberbullying. His online activities, often controversial, have placed him at the center of legal and public scrutiny since January of this year.
