CurrentReport Blog The Federal Ministry of Works has officially terminated its contract with Julius Berger for the rehabilitation of Section 1 of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road. This decision was based on what the Ministry cited as unjustified delays in project execution. The announcement was made in a statement by Uchenna Orji, the Special Adviser on media and publicity to the Minister of Works, Engr. Nweze David Umahi.
In a strongly-worded statement, Orji revealed that the Ministry is committed to addressing what it described as “ugly attitudes” among contractors who fail to meet standards. The statement criticized certain contractors for allegedly treating projects as routine business and engaging in capital flight, prioritizing price variation and foreign exchange gains over quality and timely delivery.
The Minister, Engr. Umahi, emphasized that his administration is pushing for a “Renewed Hope” agenda in Nigeria’s road infrastructure. Known for his high standards, Umahi urged contractors to adopt a “Nigeria-first” approach, with a focus on professionalism, timely delivery, and value for money.
Orji’s statement concluded that contractors who cannot meet these standards will face serious consequences, as the Ministry remains determined to foster innovation and improve infrastructure nationwide.
