First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Empowers Women Farmers in FCT with N10 Million Grant

CurrentReport Blog In a remarkable initiative aimed at uplifting women farmers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), twenty deserving individuals recently received a substantial boost from Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI). Through the Women Agricultural Empowerment programme, these women, carefully selected from all six Area Councils of the FCT, were granted a total of N10 million in funds.

Administered by the Women Affairs Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), the disbursement ceremony held in Abuja witnessed each beneficiary receiving N500,000. Dr. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, the Mandate Secretary of the secretariat and FCT Coordinator of RHI, emphasized the significance of this milestone in supporting vulnerable women to expand their micro-investments in agriculture.

The initiative, designed to support and empower women in the North Central zone of Nigeria, goes beyond mere financial assistance. Each recipient is also entitled to a complimentary health insurance scheme courtesy of the Health Secretariat of the FCTA. Dr. Benjamins-Laniyi emphasized that this grant is not a temporary fix but a tangible investment in women, underscoring RHI’s commitment to grassroots impact.

Moreover, an additional N7.5 million was earmarked as a reward for outstanding agricultural yield during harvest. The top achiever stands to gain N5 million, with the second and third positions receiving N1.5 million and N1 million, respectively. This incentive aims to incentivize beneficiaries to scale up their agricultural ventures, fostering sustainable growth in their businesses.

Alhaji Adetoyi Kolawole, the Permanent Secretary of the secretariat, lauded Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s unwavering dedication to financially empower women, emphasizing the ripple effect such support will have on families and communities. He urged beneficiaries to utilize the grant judiciously, reassuring them of the secretariat’s oversight to ensure proper utilization.

Mrs. Victoria Sani, a poultry farmer and one of the beneficiaries from Kurudu community, Abuja Municipal Area Council, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the life-changing support extended by Senator Tinubu and the women affairs secretariat. She acknowledged the various interventions implemented to improve the livelihoods of women and their communities.

This noble endeavor not only underscores Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s commitment to women empowerment but also epitomizes the collaborative efforts of governmental bodies in fostering sustainable development.
