First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Launches N1.9 Billion Social Investment Scheme for Elderly Nigerians

The program provides N200,000 per beneficiary, aimed at improving the welfare of senior citizens aged 65 and above across the country.

The initiative, held simultaneously in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), disbursed N50 million per state. In Ogun State, the event took place at the Presidential Lodge in Ibara, Abeokuta, with 250 beneficiaries selected from the state’s 20 Local Government Areas.

National Impact of the Renewed Hope Initiative

Representing the First Lady at the Ogun State launch, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, the wife of the Ogun State Governor, stated that the program is part of the Tinubu administration’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups, especially the elderly.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu highlighted the increased grant amount this year:

“The Governing Board of RHI has increased the grant from N100,000 to N200,000 to provide more support to senior citizens during the festive season. A total of N1.9 billion will be disbursed across the nation.”

She urged beneficiaries to prioritize their health by staying hydrated, exercising, resting adequately, and spending quality time with loved ones.

Ogun State Celebrates Senior Citizens

The event in Ogun State featured free medical checkups, medication distribution, food items, and transport fare for beneficiaries. The gesture was lauded as a recognition of the elderly’s contributions to their families and society.

Mrs. Abiodun said:

“This initiative acknowledges the invaluable role of our elderly citizens and ensures they receive the support they deserve in their golden years.”

Community Leaders Applaud the Initiative

The Wife of the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Dr. Yinka Elemide, commended the First Lady for her visionary leadership. She described the program as a beacon of hope for senior citizens in Ogun State and across Nigeria.
