CurrentReport Blog In the wake of the Super Eagles’ recent coaching vacancy, former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick, has voiced his support for Finidi George to take the helm. The position became vacant after Jose Peseiro declined to extend his contract, despite leading the team to the finals of the African Cup of Nations.

Finidi George, who served as interim coach for the last two friendly matches, faced mixed results. While the team secured a victory against Ghana, they faltered against Mali, dimming Finidi’s chances for the permanent role. However, Pinnick remains steadfast in his belief that Finidi is the right choice.

Pinnick highlighted Finidi’s illustrious playing career, including stints at top clubs like Ajax and Real Betis. He emphasized Finidi’s experience under renowned coaches such as Luis Van Gaal, noting Ajax’s focus on developmental football, which aligns with the Nigerian football ethos.

“Finidi possesses the virtues necessary for the role,” Pinnick affirmed in an interview with Arise TV. “His background in top-tier football, coupled with his coaching potential, makes him a compelling candidate to lead the Super Eagles.”
