FRSC Set to Clamp Down on Truck Drivers Loading Passengers with Goods in Edo State

CurrentReport Blog In a bid to enhance road safety and curb the hazardous practice of loading passengers alongside goods, the Edo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has announced plans for a rigorous clampdown on erring truck drivers.

The revelation was made by the Edo State FRSC Sector Commander, Paul Okpe, during a recent sensitisation session with the Aduwawa Truck Drivers chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Benin City. Okpe emphasized the imperative of ending the practice of carrying passengers with goods, highlighting the grave risks associated with such actions.

Okpe articulated that the aim of the sensitisation exercise was not only to educate truck drivers but also to collaborate with the leadership of the union in promoting safe driving practices and eliminating the use of trucks for both cargo and passenger transportation. He underscored the forthcoming enforcement measures while expressing confidence in the cooperation of drivers to eradicate the menace.

Acknowledging the critical role of public awareness and enforcement, Okpe reiterated the nationwide campaign initiated by the FRSC to address this pressing issue, spearheaded by Corp Marshal Alhaji Dauda Biu.

Furthermore, Alhaji Badamasi Muhammed, Chairman of NURTW Heavy Truck, Aduwawa branch, lauded the FRSC for their proactive approach and pledged unwavering support from the union. Muhammed emphasized the gravity of the situation, citing past accidents resulting in tragic fatalities due to the simultaneous transportation of goods and passengers.

Expressing commitment to the cause, Muhammed assured cooperation in educating union members on the perils of combining cargo and human transportation and vowed to actively participate in the campaign alongside the FRSC.
