Israeli media reports indicate that at least 600 people have tragically perished, and 2,000 others have been wounded as a result of Saturday’s unprecedented assault.
Hamas fighters have also reportedly taken an undisclosed number of civilians and soldiers as captives into Gaza.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have released footage depicting a missile strike on a compound supposedly belonging to Hamas’ head of military intelligence. Additionally, the IDF claims to have targeted two banks associated with the terrorist organization and sites involved in aerial weapons production within Gaza.
During a briefing, an IDF spokesperson stated, “As of this hour, there are forces engaged in combat in [Kibbutz] Kfar Aza, and searches are being conducted in numerous towns. IDF forces are present in all these towns; there isn’t one without an IDF presence.”
Addressing the situation, the spokesperson continued, “Hamas’ brutal attack constitutes a war crime. Taking women and children captive is a violation of international law and runs counter to Islamic principles. Those involved will be held accountable. The conflict is challenging, and difficult days lie ahead. The IDF is resolute and will employ its full strength and capabilities.”
Tzipi Hotovely, the Israeli ambassador to the United Kingdom, attributed Iran’s support to Hamas in the lead-up to Saturday’s attack. She emphasized the destabilizing role Iran plays in the region through its proxies.
Hotovely asserted, “We are prepared to commit to a protracted conflict to safeguard our people, ensuring no one has a motive to undertake such actions again.”
In a tragic turn of events, at least 26 Israeli soldiers have lost their lives in an attack by the Hamas militant group in southern Israel, a confirmation made by the Israeli military.
Furthermore, in response to the Israeli military’s actions, the country’s health ministry has reported that at least 313 Palestinians have lost their lives, and nearly 2,000 others have been injured.
Among the casualties is Nathanel Young, a British citizen from London, who was serving in the 13th Battalion of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). His family released a statement on social media, saying, “We’re heartbroken to share that our little brother Nathanel Young was tragically killed on the Gaza Border yesterday.”
Nathanel Young is the first confirmed British casualty in the midst of the region’s most severe violence in decades, which began with cross-border raids conducted by Palestinian militants early on Saturday morning.
