CurrentReport Blog Former Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr, has tipped Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman as the frontrunner for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.
Lookman has emerged as the overwhelming favourite following an exceptional season for both club and country. He is competing against notable players such as Serhou Guirassy, Achraf Hakimi, Rowen Williams, and Simon Adingra for Africa’s most prestigious individual football accolade.
Rohr expressed confidence in Lookman’s chances, highlighting the winger’s remarkable transformation over the years. “He has made a lot of progress. His difficult first seasons in England and Germany are now a thing of the past. He has managed to get back up and shine,” Rohr told Foot Africa.
The former Super Eagles coach further praised Lookman’s development: “I followed him a few years ago with the Super Eagles. He went from the shadows to the light. Today, he is a complete player, as effective as an assister as he is as a scorer.”
The 2024 CAF Awards ceremony will take place in Marrakech, Morocco, next Monday.
