The announcement came after a successful and peaceful primary election held on Saturday at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka. Soludo, the incumbent governor, stood as the lone candidate during the election, securing overwhelming support from party delegates.
APGA Primary Election Results:
The APGA primary election witnessed a high turnout of delegates, with a total of 3,260 delegates registered. Of these, 3,175 delegates were accredited, and a total of 3,172 votes were cast. Only four votes were deemed invalid. Governor Soludo garnered a staggering 3,168 votes, while there were no votes cast against him, underscoring his strong position within the party.
Uche Nwegbo, the returning officer for the election, announced the results, declaring Governor Soludo as the official APGA candidate for the 2025 Anambra governorship election. He affirmed that the process was in full compliance with the guidelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Governor Soludo Accepts Nomination:
In his acceptance speech, Governor Soludo expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support from party members and delegates. He emphasized the growth and unity of APGA, describing it as “the first registered progressive party in Nigeria” and a party that has become synonymous with Anambra State.
“I am humbled by this historic display of solidarity,” Soludo said. “Anambra is APGA, and APGA is Anambra. I accept this nomination wholeheartedly, and I pledge to continue working tirelessly to ensure that I do not fail the people of Anambra or the members of our party.”
The governor highlighted the progress the state has made under his leadership, noting that APGA’s progressive leadership had significantly contributed to Anambra’s growth. He also stressed the importance of unity and collective effort in advancing the state’s development.
Soludo further mentioned the remarkable achievements of his administration, pointing to the fact that his government has managed to achieve significant milestones without borrowing a single Naira. He emphasized that Anambra has only begun its journey toward greater prosperity, promising even more transformative leadership in his second term.
Support from Citizens and Political Parties:
Governor Soludo’s leadership has garnered strong support from various quarters, including political parties, industry leaders, and grassroots groups. The governor expressed his deep appreciation for the continuous backing from citizens, captains of industries, and market women who have contributed to his campaign efforts. Soludo acknowledged the endorsement of various support groups, further solidifying his position as the preferred choice for the 2025 election.
“In 2021, Anambra State hired me, and since then, we’ve made tremendous progress. We’ve received unparalleled support from our people, which has been crucial to our achievements,” Soludo remarked. He also noted that never before in the state’s history had there been such a widespread consensus and unity among political groups backing a single candidate.
Governor Soludo’s Vision for Anambra’s Future:
Soludo reiterated his commitment to not letting Anambra down, stressing his determination to maintain a high standard of leadership. He revealed plans to further expand on the successes of his first term, aiming to continue his efforts toward the socio-economic development of the state. He confidently expressed his belief that APGA would not only secure a victory across all 21 local governments but also win in each of the 326 wards, making a bold statement in the political landscape of Anambra.
Running Mate: Dr. Onyeka Ibezim Reappointed
In another significant development, Governor Soludo named his running mate for the 2025 election. He reappointed Dr. Onyeka Ibezim as his deputy governor, emphasizing the continuity of leadership. Referring to his popular 2017 lecture, “If it is not broken, why mend it?”, Soludo affirmed that the decision to renominate Ibezim was based on the successful partnership the two had during the first term.
