CurrentReport Blog Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, inaugurated the Caretaker Committee for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday, expressing confidence in the party’s efforts to reclaim its “stolen mandate” from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state’s recent elections. With just five days left in his administration, Obaseki emphasized that the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) had appointed the 10-member caretaker committee to oversee the party’s operations until new executives are elected.
The caretaker committee, set up in line with Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution, is chaired by former state party chairman Tony Aziegbemi, with Henry Duke Tenebe serving as secretary. Other committee members include Chris Nehikhare, Harrison Omagbon, Fidel Igenegbale, Tony Anenih Jnr, Arch. Bishop Anthony Okosun, Segun Saiki, Adezat Kuburat Ibrahim, and Augustine Edosomwan. They will manage party affairs in Edo for a maximum of 90 days or until a new executive body is installed.
During the inauguration, Governor Obaseki reiterated the PDP’s determination to reclaim what he described as a mandate “stolen in broad daylight” by the APC during the September 21 governorship election. He assured party members that the PDP has gathered substantial evidence and will pursue its case through the courts. The governor also highlighted the importance of unity and consistent communication with local governments and the state House of Assembly to keep the public informed.
With the tribunal hearing set to commence in December, Obaseki urged PDP supporters to remain vigilant and engaged. He further emphasized that restoring democracy in Edo State is a priority, calling on party members to counter any misinformation and maintain strong public engagement.
This inauguration comes as the PDP prepares to challenge the election results, positioning the party for what it hopes will be a significant legal and political victory.
