CurrentReport Blog Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially launched the upgrade of the Eruwa Farm Settlement into a state-of-the-art agribusiness industrial hub. The groundbreaking ceremony, held on Thursday in the Ibarapa geopolitical zone, marks a significant milestone in the governor’s efforts to position agriculture as a key driver of the state’s economy.
The 3,250-hectare Eruwa Farm Settlement, which had been in a state of neglect for years, will be transformed into a modern hub for agricultural production, processing, and export. Governor Makinde stated that the project would place Ibarapaland on the global agricultural map and create thousands of jobs for youths across Oyo State.
Building on Agribusiness Success
Governor Makinde highlighted the success of the Fasola Agribusiness Hub, a 1,000-hectare project initiated as a prototype for revamping farm settlements in Oyo State. He noted that the Eruwa Farm Settlement, being three times larger, will replicate and expand the achievements of Fasola, which has become a benchmark for agribusiness development in Nigeria.
“Eruwa Farm Settlement is three times bigger than Fasola, and what you see in the new Fasola Agribusiness Hub today is what we are putting up here. Ibarapaland is now on the agriculture map,” the governor said.
Commitment to Infrastructure Development
Makinde also assured residents that his administration would complete the Ido-Eruwa Road within the next year to support access to the agribusiness hub. He urged the local community to welcome investors and actively participate in the region’s agricultural transformation.
A Vision for Oyo State’s Economy
Since taking office, Governor Makinde has prioritized agribusiness as a cornerstone of Oyo State’s economy. The Eruwa project, funded through a N7.6 billion loan facility accessed by the previous administration, is part of his broader strategy to revive moribund farm settlements and promote sustainable development.
The new agribusiness hub is expected to boost food production, enhance agricultural exports, and create economic opportunities for the people of Ibarapaland and beyond.
